Thoughts About Birthdays
Last year, on m 30 birthday, I vowed to be forever 29. Recently my thoughts have changed. My grandmother, who is with Jesus 5 months now, was always proud of her age. She counted every birthday as a blessing and never shied away from telling her years. (Weight however is sacred. A lady never discusses her weight.)
What's so great about the 20's anyway? Well, there was plenty. I graduated college with a B.A. in Mass Communication, got married to a truly awesome man, got my first "real" job, left the workforce to care for our 2 beautiful babies and a host of other things that I might remember if I ever bothered to write some of these things down.
Then again, I also learned that marriage is difficult, entry level positions pay very little, pregnancy is not that fun, living below a standard that you are accustomed to is also not so fun, babies run you ragged, vacations and freetime are rare and life in general is hard. Here's a cliche. 'Cry me a river.'
There's really no point in longing for days gone by. So what if I'm too old to audition for American Idol, I wasn't going to anyway. And so what if I'm not as 'trim' as I was a 24. I've had 2 babies, gimmie a break. I don't want to be in college forever. And really, 20K a year doesn't put food on the table. The 30's bring the 'experienced pay grade' (We hope). We've got each other, we've got our children, and we have a business to grow. So I'm looking forward to what the future holds.
My pastor, as I'm sure all of your pastors do, often reminds us that we are not promised tomorrow. With that in mind I rejoice for today because each day is indeed a blessing and a gift. I choose to embrace the years God gives me just as my dear grandmother taught me. So look out world....I'm 31!

Handy Mommy
Back in April we moved into, what I so lovingly refer to as, "The Little Crooked House." I'm trying to overcome my distaste but it's a slow process.
Any hoo! I'm feeling empowered today! A few weeks ago I purchased my very first power drill. Nothing too fancy. It's just something to assist me in all my grand schemes and ideas. Last night I drilled holes in the wall for pegs in my daughters room. They're still holding on the wall! SUCCESS! Lydia's room is nearly complete. All she needs now is some paint touch-ups to the walls, suitable curtains and a few less toys.
Next I get crazy the with shelving. We have a very tiny laundry room that was probably not meant for a washer and a dryer. It's a good thing I'm not pregnant or I would never be able to get in there. In order to clean up the tops of the washer and dryer as well as the floor I have successfully installed a 6 ft. wire shelf.
Sadly, the 'before the move' before picture of the laundry room isn't very good. It really didn't look much different. I think I couldn't get to the laundry room on the day I was taking pictures.
Some days I feel like this house could really be something. (So much as small little houses nestled deep into the woods of redneck country can be. But I digress.)
